I had my first pregnancy craving a few weeks ago, not bad for 7 months pregnant.
So what did I want? Pineapple!!
Sent hubby off to the supermarket with a list of things to get and he only forgot one thing? The pineapple!!
Since posting on face book about my pineapple craving I've had several people tell me that pineapple is a big no no when pregnant. I had heard of this before i was known to eat more than my fair share of pineapple when i was in my last month of pregnancy with George but i know it was an old wives tale and didn't really believe it. This time i thought I would actually look into how true these claims are.
Turns our there is some truth to this as fresh pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain which can be known to soften the cervix, rather like the use of evening primrose oil. But in order to get the same kind of results you get from evening primrose oil you will need to eat 7 fresh pineapples every day, and that was fresh pineapples, as canning and juicing of pineapples destroy the bromelain.
So if you're pregnant and want pineapple I say eat it!!
